Seen Charity

SEEN

About us

SEEN was set up in 1999, to support those facing the trauma of an unplanned pregnancy or pregnancy loss. We became a charity in 2005. Based in Twickenham, London, we provide a safe space to support those facing unplanned pregnancy and baby loss, and we deliver healthy relationship and sex education to empower and nurture our community across the boroughs of Richmond, Hounslow and Kingston.

The services we offer include:
• Listening and offering practical support for anyone with a crisis pregnancy
• A 10-step course for anyone suffering after pregnancy loss including abortion, miscarriage or still birth
• Befriending support for anyone continuing with a pregnancy in difficult circumstances
• Teaching RSE to pupils in local schools and youth clubs
• Delivering the ‘I Am’  relationships course for women in prison

Our 10-step pregnancy loss course helps develop skills to deal with various life challenges: changing unhealthy ways of dealing with anger, shame and blame, developing self-confidence, resilience, communication, health and well-being skills. We aim to enable individuals to have the ability, confidence and self-esteem to make informed decisions and be able to deal with past situations, ensuring that no one should go through the experience of considering having an abortion, or dealing with a miscarriage or past abortion, without being supported.

Through our schools work we aim to educate and empower young people in order to reduce risky sexual behaviour and abusive relationships, this includes: being able to make healthy, informed choices about relationships and sex, being able to recognise and understand more about what is right and wrong in a relationship, being aware of signs of abuse whether emotional or physical, and learning about sexually transmitted disease.

Our prisons work focuses on building self-esteem and making healthy relationship choices, using the creative arts, games and discussion to equip participants to make and maintain respectful, positive and healthy relationships, free from coercion, violence and intimidation.

As an independent pregnancy centre we are committed to offering professional standards of non-directive care and support to people facing unintended pregnancy. We adhere to the ethical framework for good practice for counselling and psychotherapy as laid down by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
